So many pretty homes in blogland, all decked out to the 9's.
We hosted Thanksgiving again this year. We started with 5, then 14, and had 10. It was nice because we could all sit around the dining room table together. We had a great meal (everybody brought something.) and it was so nice to be all together. I tried something different this year. I bought packages of kitchen towels and used my PB napkin rings. During dinner, I announced that as a treat, they all got to take their napkins/kitchen towels home. It was a happy surprise for them, and they thought it was a great idea. (oh my, who couldn't use extra kitchen towels?)
I have been purchasing Christmas presents, mostly over the internet. Today I thought it might be a good time to separate them according to family, and then person. I was surprised at how I really don't need to get anything else. I have my wrapping paper and ribbon, and boxes. I will have to pick a day to work on the dining room table for wrapping.
Last week was a horrible week for my husband and I. Our kitty, Lily, had to be put to sleep. She had a horrible disease called Stomatitis in her mouth. We have had her on meds for at least 2 years now, and the agony in her eyes was just to much. She was our baby, we took her everywhere with us: camping, hotels, and she was a good traveler, now she isn't in any pain. We plan on waiting until after the 1st of the year, maybe, to look for another kitty.
On a happier note, our youngest daughter will turn 31 on Saturday. We are going to dinner at a nice restaurant in Los Alamitos and going down to Naples to walk the canals and look at the Christmas lights. We try to do this every year, alternating different locations. But since it is her birthday I let her pick.
Well, this went on longer than I planned. I wish everyone of you a Blessed Christmas and a Happy and healthy New Year.
It's a beautiful day here in So. Calif. (at least where I live) The weather is lovely, in the 70's daytime, and 40's at nite. I love it.
Soooooo, I really haven't done much around the house. I made drape panels for the living room, but have yet to hem them, but, they are hanging. I have panels cut, lined and sewn (no hem) for our bedroom. I still have 2 lovely bergere chairs I need to reupholster. I can't get my rear in gear to do much, other than mundane housework. I hardly cook. My husband is so good, he doesn't complain about any of it. (I used to cook 3 meals a day 6 days a week, work, kid things and was OCD when it came to our house.) I blame it on menopause! (and being tired of doing absolutely everything around the house for 30 years).
Don't ever buy anything from Ethan Allen. They still haven't fixed my 'very expensive' sofa. They are 'working' on it. C'est la vie.
I've been exploring the area around where we live. I've been to Palm Springs numerous times, so I have gone to the north a little and found some interesting little towns. We don't have as much traffic out here, so that is nice. The sidewalks roll up at 8pm, so funny, it's like when I was a kid.
Well, obviously, I have run out of things to blog.....Thanks for visiting. Blessings Paula
I'm sure, no I know because you all admit to your 'messy rooms'. I'm glad I am not the only one.
Busy summer. Went to Oregon in June/July for 2 weeks. I have my aunt and uncle, cousins, nephews, friends in and around Portland. One (there are 5 boys) of the nephews got married, and there was all sorts of celebrations going on, it was really a fun trip, for me of course, but, my husband had a great time too.
July was kinda slow. It has been terribly hot and humid this summer. We have a good rain about 3-4pm and then it just blows away. I have been swimming laps, trying to stay upright on my bike, and putsing around the house. Ethan Allen still has not fixed our sofa sufficiently, but, Lazy Boy did a great job on the recliner. I still have these projects: paint dining room chairs (6 chairs, 1 table), 2 bergere chairs, one drape.
In August my youngest daughter and I took my vintage trailer up the mountain to Big Bear Lake. It was beautiful up there, I could have stayed longer. My husband wants to go up in October, so that is next. I want to go to Maui. lol
I have found a new costuming site that I love- AMERICAN DUCHESS. She not only makes and shows all of her outfits, SHE HAS A SHOE SHOP for vintage and antique replica shoes. So far, I've bought 2 pairs, The Duchess in RED, love 'em, and Spectator T strap shoes in white and brown. OH, and a pair of silk thigh highs to wear with my red shoes! Now I want to make a silk tartan skirt with a silk blouse or sweater for Christmas.
I appreciate your those of you that read my blog. No pictures yet, I know, I have had offers from other bloggers. Sometimes, real life just gets in the way......Blessings Paulafixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-30126549482511525242013-05-28T12:57:00.000-07:002013-05-28T12:57:03.760-07:00Memorial Day weekend was beautiful here in So. Calif. We didn't accomplish much, but ran a few errand.
I received my sofa from Ethan A and my recliner from Lazy B. But, last week I noticed that the sofa cushions didn't look like they had enough stuffing, you know, puckering and the back cushion's were rolling forward, not a good look for a cushion with welting around all of the seams. Then, my husband pointed out to me, that the first board on the foot recliner was broken in half. We really hadn't used the recliner much, the seat doesn't have enough stuffing!?! So, I got on the phone and made appointments to have someone come out to see if they could fix these problems or exchange them. I have always bought Sherrill sofa's and have never had any problems at all. So I am totally bummed. I have rearranged my 'props', added a few and need to pack the others and put in cupboards in garage. I haven't recovered my bergere chairs yet. The fabric suggested is a linen (loose)/ silk blend. As much as I love it, I am trying to find something a little heavier. ( We have a great room, so this is where we live.)
Today I am painting chairs with ascp, french linen with dry brush white. I already recovered the seats, I took them off of the chairs. I have a neutral buffalo plaid on the seats.
That's all for now. May the Lord bless you all, Paula Lusk
We are hoping we are starting our spring/summer season. Last year it snowed in May! What the heck. Oh well, I repainted my patio furniture, it's been, oh I don't know, ions, since I last painted it all. Lots of rust to clean up, and a fresh coat of white paint. A table, 4 chairs and a rolling serving cart. woohoo

I have to do some painting, wall painting. We are having some new furniture being delivered this week. A new sofa, leather ottoman, and a recliner. (I know, there ugly, but, I picked out one that looks like a chair and the fabric will go nicely with the sofa.) I bought a bunch of other items, large rug, lamps, painted (ASCP) some tables we had, made throw pillows, new silk drapery panels. And I bought new fabric to recover my bergere chairs. Oh, and I really should paint my dining table and chairs!. Ya, not much, to do.

I am so excited. Hopefully after it is done, I'll figure out how to post pictures.

Take care, and thank you for stopping by. Paula
My husband comes out of his office, and I look out the window and it is snowing. The whole golf course and all the houses lining it are covered in snow. It is so amazing. We had some snow 2 years ago, but, other than that we haven't been snowed on since we had a house in the mountains 25 yrs ago. It is a very serene feeling, being in the house and the quiet of the snow. I realize this is no big deal to you all that get snow, but to us it is special. Well since people here don't even know how to drive in the rain, I guess we won't be going out today. Have a great day.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-12272577734614164452013-01-24T15:33:00.002-08:002013-01-24T15:33:42.798-08:00Cleaning up ChristmasHappy New Year everyone- I love reading blogs. It makes me feel normal. My Christmas stuff is, packed, but still in the living room. lol My laundry room has piles (3) on the floor, and I haven't made my bed yet today. Life is good and I am happy.
I have a plethora of things to paint and sew, but, you wouldn't think so if you saw my house. (that is my fault for never posting pictures, I am very sorry and will hopefully post some this year '13) My house looks decorated, as my daughter reminds me all the time.
Well I think I am going to Homegoods, so take care and have a great day. Paulafixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-52415470556120468402012-12-31T18:10:00.000-08:002012-12-31T18:10:08.353-08:00A New YearGood tidings - I am sorry for not writing sooner. Or ever posting pictures.
Two years ago 12/24/10 we moved . I may have mentioned this before. In April 2012 we moved to a larger home in the same community. I absolutely love my newer house. Gorgeous views, better layout, blah blah blah. You get what I'm saying. So, anyways, we are also renting this house. I hate renting and it was my idea. I thought it would give us a chance to try a couple of different floor plans, until we decided to buy. Well I want this one and it is not for sale!?! I have yards and yards of fabric and trim for drapes, etc., and gallons of paint!
My mother passed away in Nov. when we had finally taken a short vacation. So the second day we had to drive into OC to make arrangements. Believe me when I say it was a blessing.
If you have read my other blogs you know that my mother and I were never close. That's just life.
So anyways, it is New Years eve, my husband just fixed a drink of Absinthe...he likes it, he's also not much of a drinker. Thank goodness, but, then that is why I married him.
I'm trying to make up my mind on what project to start. I hand sew my Renaissance Faire clothes. I have a beautiful color of rust silk, 5 yds, for a skirt. And I also have some beautiful embroidered silk fabric to make a jacket to go with it. This type of hand sewing is very calming, and rewarding. Or.....make new drapes, pillows, dust ruffle, and slipcover my 2 chairs and ottoman in our bedroom. (when we buy I want this floor plan anyways)
So HAPPY NEW YEARS EVE to all. I hope you have a great 2013! Blessings Paulafixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-33934610514719093522012-10-18T13:59:00.000-07:002012-10-18T13:59:26.870-07:00Thinking about Starting a ProjectHi to whoever is out there. I'm sitting on my sofa thinking about all of the projects I want to get started. I do have a book case in my hall that is at least 100 years old, it was my great-grandparents. I haven't repainted it, so I don't know when it was last painted. I got into a cupboard and started pulling out things my dad made as a child, his marbles/bag, some artwork. Then I got out some things my grandma made as a teenager/young adult. I was so blessed to have my grandma for 43 years, and she was very active until 2 weeks before she passed. I and my daughters, spent a great deal of time with my grandparents. I lived at my parents during the week, and on weekends I went to my grandma's or my aunt and uncle's. 4 words Our household was dysfunctional. My grandma's and aunt's homes were safe and happy. WOW I wonder where that came from. I thought I was over it....I am now.
Still have a bunch of projects to do. My husband won't allow (yeah right) me on a ladder when he is not home, I always miss that last wrung and jar myself. I live in a gated community of 3,000 people..And my backyard, just past my patio is the 6th hole on the golf course. I have a view of about at least 30 miles and I live in the foothills of 2 mountain ranges. I bet you didn't know So. Cal. had such places.
I feel very blessed to have the life I have. I also do not like milk paint! WTH I like chalk paint so much better. My above mentioned bookshelf looks like it was painted and distressed with milk paint and like I said it's 100 years old!
Well I think, just think, that I will get my fall decorations out. Have a great day! Paula
I had to wonder if the significance of this day, 11 years ago, left them with a hole in their hearts.
On that day, my husband called me and told me to turn the TV on right before the 2nd building was hit. I literally started to cry and vomit. I still to this day cannot watch this scene. I got on my knees and started to pray. For the victims, all of them, the ones they left behind, and the travesty of the whole occurrence. Being a Christian, is the only hope that I, as a person on this earth, choose and live, knowing my Lord will give me and my loved ones hope during this and these trying time.
One blogger posted a picture of the 1st building on fire, with the other plane ready to hit the second building. I don't know about anyone else, but, to me I found the photo very disturbing. Another showed a picture of the memorial today in NY and the new building going up. This I found, proves that we, as Christian Americans are given solice from our Lord.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-8065690332962026192012-09-07T18:51:00.000-07:002012-09-07T18:57:42.662-07:00Recovering back to peacefulHello to anyone that is reading. I have not blogged in 4 months due to: me giving my daughter a bridal shower, the Renaissance Faire, our daughter's wedding, my aunt and uncle visiting, 2 sets of good friends that came down from Oregon for the wedding and to visit, still trying to figure out what I want to do to decorate our new place (I need lots of money and Betsy Spreet!) Moving our daughter and son in law about 15 miles south of where they lived, (much further for us) for 2 days last weekend and last but definitely not the least, my mom in hospice. I pray everyday that the Lord will take her and release her from the horrible pain and dementia she is in. I have accepted that she will die anytime.
I'd like to share that I have been productive and painted, sewn, and all the other projects that I have, done. But, alas, I haven't. I still read my list of bloggers everyday or every other day. It is something I enjoy doing. Well, I need to fix dinner and fast. It is getting late. Thank you to all of you that respond to my comments, I think it is very nice of you. Blessings Paula
I spent all that time on the bathroom cabinet, even forgot to get a final picture, and the owner sold the house. On a Thursday nite at 10:30pm (no etiquette here) she called and told us. I immediately got on the internet and found a house, which by the way, was/is the original floorplan we wanted to try (We are renting for the first time in 35 years of marriage) and on top of that it is in a beautiful setting, i.e. views, etc.
So within a week we moved out and into the new, to us, house. It seems so big and is only 200 sq ft bigger?!
Then on that next Sunday I had to host a shower for my daughter that is getting married in 3 weeks. All that my friends, even with help, just threw me for a loop.
Needless to say (I am a post menopausal woman, need I say more?) I haven't really moved into my our place yet, because, I sprained my left wrist and have severe carpal tunnel in my right hand. (you know the thumb and 3 fingers kind.)i.e. numb fingers.
It seems like I am complaining, and I guess I am, but I am really excited to get this house decorated. I got my drapery fabric out and cut all of my panels last week, and guess what, I can't find the power cord for my sewing machine! Some thing is wrong with this picture. I guess the Lord is telling me to stop acting like I have the energy I had up until about 8 years ago. Such is life. Take care.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-62813677684917752632012-01-19T13:51:00.000-08:002012-01-19T13:51:18.546-08:00Refinishing Bathroom CabinetOk, first of all, no pictures. I'm sorry. Tuesday I decided that I was going to refinish the bathroom cabinet. It has 4 center drawers and double cabinets under the two sinks. I am using my Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The cupboards were painted an incredibly ugly green. And I like green. So far, the 4 drawer fronts are finished, yeah, painted and waxed. I am painting the doors, did the insides yesterday, 2 coats each=4. As I write, I have just put the first coat of the paint on the fronts.(I'm taking a break) I have chosen graphite with a dark paste. It is really turning out nice. I already painted the walls SW Oyster Bay. I have nickel pulls and knobs from my stash. And will be using aqua/green for accents. I WILL PUT UP PICTURES. I promise. Need to get back. I might even get to start waxing them today. Next the cabinet.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-19118397986919192342012-01-14T10:14:00.000-08:002012-01-14T10:17:41.018-08:00New Year - New ProjectsI really appreciate you all that have answered or commented on my comments. I have found quite a few things, Burlap Garland (love it), made quite a few for Christmas presents and for myself.
I took an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint class last week. I had been using the paint but wanted to learn the 'right way' to use the waxes. I love this paint, now, I know why everyone uses it. So easy. And, yes, I know, I need to post pictures. I have become awful about taking pictures. I didn't take any at Christmas! Shame on me!
I had a week of post Christmas depression, which, is pretty good for me, I usually have it for 2 months. It hasn't been fun knowing every year this was going to happen, but, I always pull out of it and it was quicker this year. (Thanks Annie Sloan)
I have also started a French class. I did take french for 6 years, eons ago, I can speak some, read about all, but want conversational. Unless I go to France I probably won't be taking pictures. lol
Well, I wish everyone a very happy New Year. And I will work on the pictures!?
God bless you allfixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-64859186086318741212011-12-14T13:09:00.000-08:002011-12-14T13:09:50.883-08:00My baby's, Alicia, 29th BirthdayYou know, God is Great! When I was 28, I gave birth to a baby girl. At that time, my OB took tests that didn't show up positive until I was 4 months pregnant. My body felt pregnant, and I had a little bump, but negative pregnancy tests. She has truly been a blessing to our family. She is a Godly woman, kind, thoughtful, loving and fun.
Today is her 29th Birthday, and I thank the Lord everyday for giving her to us for a daughter. Love you Alicia. Mom
Oh yeah, I got my tree skirt all cut out, and am glueing it now.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-36816240624438280112011-12-13T14:00:00.000-08:002011-12-13T14:00:50.996-08:00Rainy DayThis year my Hubby and I are celebrating Christmas in a home half the size of our last home. Oh boy, I am also trying to make a decision what to keep and what to offer the girls. This is much more difficult than I thought it would be. I just can't seem to finish anything I start! lol That, is nothing new. The tree has been up a week and I only have about half of the ornaments on it, I will finish that today. I also need a new tree skirt. I had a beautiful silk patchwork one that I bought in the early '80s, but, 3 years ago our 2 kitties were dying, and I let them sleep on it, and it got so bad we threw it out. I have a bunch of linen and burlap, velvet, you name it, it is in a box somewhere. But, my husband has both of my glue guns at his office an hour away, and he keeps forgetting it. Like I can't just go to Walmart and buy a new one! There lies the crux of my decorating not getting done. I would rather sit here and look at what everybody else is doing. I love looking at everybodies different ways of decorating, so different, but so fun and pretty.
I guess I'll put my boots on and run over to Walmart. Have a great day.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-47470193694819344502011-10-23T17:00:00.000-07:002011-10-23T17:00:38.434-07:00What a difference a computer makesWhen I got married 34 yrs ago, we had to drive to the few bridal shops they had in Orange County. For my daughter's wedding, I spent the better part of a day on my computer and cell phone, making appointments for Wedding Venues (2), Bridal Shops (2), and of course, lunch. Tomorrow, Monday, I will leave my home, and drive at least an hour to her apartment, that is if the traffic is good. lol yeah right, I have to go into Orange County. Then when we finish up at about 7-8pm I will drive back home. I love where we live. I was born and raised in OC, and lived there until Dec. 2010. It went from a pokey town, where we could walk home from the movies after dark (oh no!) to a crazy traffic mess in my time there. Of course I will have my handy computer and phone with me, so if any additional duties come up we will be set to go. My daughter has the latest iPhone, she is just so up on things, lol. Will keep all posted. Have a great week.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-25049274911742322932011-10-07T17:55:00.000-07:002011-10-07T17:55:18.774-07:00WeddingOur youngest daughter and her fiancee are getting married. Yippee I can't believe how stressed out I am. I don't even need to be. She would like to get married in May 2012, so we have plenty of time. And I am not the type of person who can turn this event over to a wedding planner, no, not me, I have to do it myself so that it is just right. lol No seriously, I am a bit OCD when it comes to my family and home. She is coming out on Sunday evening so that we can look through bridal magazines and dueling computers.
I know all will fall into place.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7807632492073901075.post-1953794602188320492011-09-09T15:47:00.000-07:002011-09-09T15:47:57.589-07:00NewbieI have to say that I am new to blogging, although, I have been journaling for 20 years (just mundane, daily stuff). I have always been one to do my own decorating, painting, moulding, electrical, you name it, I have done it. I even have my own power tools, yeah, and a nail gun. love my tools!
I not only like to decorate, I like to cook, sew Renaissance clothing, Glamping (I have a '67 birchwood Field and Stream 13 footer).
I am married to my best friend, we have known each other since we were 13, and married in 1977. We have two lovely adult daughters, with fiancee's, but no babies.
We just, in Dec 10, sold our big house and moved to a wonderful country club development. We went from 3400 sq ft to 1500 sq ft. It has been quite a change, but we were lonely in our big house, so this has worked out wonderfully for my hubby and me. Oh, and Lily, our cat!
I hope to do this blog the right way, I read about 10 other blogs a day, and have learned new techniques, and products.
So, Welcome to my blog, I'm glad you visited.fixitfaeriehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03030309981817375202noreply@blogger.com3
